UFC is becoming hugely popular, with television audiences in the millions. There are a number of reasons for its recent boom, with the mixed martial arts allowing for some brutal fighting, with less restraint on the fighters from the referees, and a ranking system that means the reigning champions have to face the best challenger going, making for some outstanding title bouts. This also means we have close, hard to predict fights, which makes betting more interesting as we aren’t constantly faced with David vs Goliath battles which are easy to predict and difficult to profit from.
Of course, the most popular form of bet in UFC is the overall winner of the fight, but as with boxing we have several round and methods of victory which can also be bet on. Championship and Main Event fights are 5 rounds, so we aren’t stabbing in the dark as much as with boxing when choosing the round of victory. Fights can be won in a number of methods, with the most common being knockouts, technical knockouts and submissions, while there is also the potential for a fight to go to a decision. We can bet on this as well, so in most ways UFC is similar to boxing in terms of betting. There's also Bellator, another popular form of MMA, which holds many similarities to UFC.
Like with all sports, there is plenty to consider when looking for a bookmaker for your UFC bets. One of the first should be the volume of coverage that the bookmaker is giving to the sport, as some will have little or no coverage of the sport due to its relative popularity compared to football and horse racing, for example. Next to this, we should consider what kind of odds we are getting, as this will vary a lot between bookmakers. Make sure your bookie is offering consistently good odds before making your deposit. It’s likely that some bookmakers will offer special bonuses and promotions when there is a big fight on, so keep an eye on these if you’re looking to bet on a Championship fight.
